Breadwinner

For this week I would first of all like to make sure that you can all get on our blog. Secondly, I would like for you to answer this questions for us. How is life different for girls in Afghanistan than in Canada. Please do some reading on the internet to answer this questions. You could read on wikipedia or perhaps news articles.

Looking forward to hear from you,

Miss Pineo

The Difference Between Life in
Canada and in Afghanistan...

Afghanistan Life:
-no girl/woman can go outside without a man.
-the taliban rule their country
-Afghanistan is wartorn
-women have no respect, there is poverty and women have to be covering every part of their body.

Canada life:
-freedom and peace
-respect for women
-no taliban
-there is no war and women don't have to cover them selves, they can if they want to.

The Breadwinner
Chapters 4-6:

R: Parvanas brother, Ali, her younger sister, Maryam and her mother get sick because they have nothing to eat and they are lonely. Nooria, Parvanas older sister, sends Parvana to go out, to the Kabul Market and get food so she and her family can survive. While Parvana is at the market, the Taliban find her and start chasing her because she is not with a man and she is not covered up. They keep whipping and chasing her around the market until she ran into a women. It took long for Parvana to find out who it was. The women was Mrs.Weera, a friend of Parvanas mother. Mrs. Weera stayed the night at Parvanas house. When Parvana was about to fall asleep, she heard Mrs.Weera and her mother talking. The last words she heard were: "I guess we'll have to think of something else" and then drifted off to sleep.

?:Here are my 3 questions for Parvana:
1. How did you feel to see Mrs.Weera again?
2. Was Mrs.Weera happy to see you?
3. What do you think your mom and Mrs.Weera are planning to do to you?

V:Here are my 3 words:
1.Burqa:
A long tent like garment, which the Taliban have declared women must wear whenever they go outside.
2.Chador:
A peice of cloth worn by women and girls to cover their hair and shoulders.
3.Nan:
Afghan bread. Flat, long or round.

I think that The Breadwinner is very interesting, sad and funny. I can't wait to see what happens next and I hope to read the next book "Parvanas Journey"
